DIY Natural Hair Moisturizing Mango Capuacu Kokum Butter Hair Cream | No Shea or Coconut Oil
Coconut oil and shea butter are commonly used in DIY natural hair recipes. After doing some research, I have been relieved to find out that these two oils are troublesome to other natural besides me. My hair just doesn't like them, so I was forced to look for other alternatives.
Enter capuacu butter, this is an incredibly nourishing butter with many benefits including that its loaded with anti-oxidants, protect against environmental damage, its a natural sun protection, improves moisture levels in the skin and hair and improves elasticity. I is also anti-inflammatory.
Also, let me introduce you to Kokum Butter , Kokum butter is ideal for scalp treatments to promote strong roots and a nourishing atmosphere for all that new hair growth. The thing that makes this butter stand out is the fact that it isn't as greasy as cocoa butter and the light fragrance isn't as noticeable as shea butter.
The last of the butters in my recipe is Mango Butter, is packed with vitamins like A and E, essential fatty acids, and natural antioxidants, This butter can be extremely nourishing to both the hair and skin.
I have included 3 of my favorite essential oils for natural hair Lavender, Cedarwood and Rosemary. They each have benefits that I have included in the video link provided.
DIY Natural Hair Moisturizing
Simply add equal parts solid butter to a liquid oil like olive oil, avocado oil, jojoba oil, sweet almond oil or shea nut oil. If you have them all, then add them all. If not, then just pick the ones you have on hand and blend them together. I added my essential oils liberally because I know how well they can nourish the hair. I think I added about 10-20 drops of each oil.
Using the double boiler method helps to prevent damaging the nutrients in the oils.
Once youve combined the butter and oils and gently heated and melted, refrigerate for one hour to allow to solidify.
Bring them out and beat with a mixer.
Scoop into your empty container. Store in a cool dry place short term. Longer term storage is best in the refrigerator.
Let me know how you like it!
