Hey, I'm Lydia!

I like playing in the sun and dirt, growing things and taking care of plant babies. When I’m not doing that, I’m watching E! or the  RHWOanywhere and thinking about how to make french fries burn fat (I've never met a french fry I didn’t love). I earned my level 1 crunchy hippie mom badge birthing my little man Mitt unmedicated (ya know, how everyone around the world does...) But I guess the internet liked it cuz our little birth story went viral- go figure.  I'm on a mission to keep myself and my family well, naturally and love and honor our Earth. I'm married to Ben and we are a blending family in progress. I'm loving on my growing tribe of sisterhood from all around the world, join us and stay connected.

How To Make Your Very Own Body Butter

How To Make Your Very Own Body Butter

Im bougie as hell about my body butter. I like my skin glowing, smooth and nourished. HYDRATED AF! ya know? Im going for baby butt quality skin for as long as possible lol .

Whether your skin is melinated like mine, or of a different complexion, you can bet your ass youll notice a difference when you pay attention to the ingredients you put into your body butter and lotions.

I would shout that from the mountain tops.

So many well-known skin care products are absolutely filled with harmful toxins we absorb through our skin. WHICH IS OUR LARGEST ORGAN! WE GOT TO DO BETTER.

I’m going to tell you how to make your very own body butter! I can get really greedy with the ingredients I use, but just know you can choose any one firm butter and any one oil, blend them up and make it happen with just 2 ingredients. Ok? ok!

How To Make Your Very Own Body Butter

My three favorite body butters I use as my own base are:

  • Kokum Butter: This is a really great base for body butter, because it is so easily absorbed into the skin. It’s made from the seeds of the kokum tree.

  • Mango Butter: Adding this light and non-greasy butter to your recipe will give your skin a big boost of nutrients. Mango butter is actually made from the stone inside the fruit itself.

  • Cupuacu Butter: This is my absolute favorite butter to use. I love the consistency, and the benefits are amazing as well. This butter can actually slow down the skin’s break-down and aging process! If you only want to use one base butter, make it this one. Cupuacu butter is cold pressed out of the seeds of the cupuacu tree found in the Amazon.

You can use one or two of whatever body butters you want as a base, but I’m gonna tell you my recipe with all three butters I’ve mentioned above…

  • You’re going to put equal parts of all three into a metal bowl. You can just eyeball it, this is a no rocket science required recipe. ;)

  • Then, you want to add some liquid oil to all this solid butter you have in your bowl. This just helps you achieve that buttery consistency we’re going for. I like jojoba oil, sweet almond oil, olive oil, and shea nut oil. My current fave is the jojoba oil, so pick yours and just pour some over all the butter. You want to make sure it’s enough to really coat all the butter you have and to mix in well.

  • Add your essential oils- Essential oils due to their lack of fatty acids essential oils are not really oils. They are highly concentrated plant components frequently used in aromatherapy. essential oils have become very popular in natural and homemade hair care remedies. These oils can have a healing effect that is beneficial to your body mentally physically spiritually and emotionally. The best feature is that they have powerful antiviral, antimicrobial, antibiotic, antibacterial, anti septic and anti-inflammatory properties that are unique to that individual plant. I really recommend experimenting with them- only your own research and experiementation will show you how well or not well you love a specific oil. The most commonly used hair oils are eucalyptus oil, frankincense oi, lavender oil, lemongrass oil, peppermint oil, rosemary oil, orange oil and tea tree oil. I have a low cost starter kit that comes with 12 of the “greatest hits” essential oils and you can find them here - you can also DM me on instagram @lydiakia and Ill get you hooked up!

  • After you’ve added your oil(s), fill a larger metal bowl a little less than halfway with boiling hot water. Then, place your butter bowl inside to create a little double boiler out of bowls. Let all the butter melt down into the oil so everything is liquid.

  • Refrigerate for two to four hours, so everything can settle together and cool down.

  • Once your mixture has cooled, you can pull it out and pop it right into a mixer and whip it until you have a super buttery consistency. The timing will vary based on how you customized your own recipe, but you’re looking for what softened stick butter does when it’s really, really soft without being melted.

There you have it! A super easy body butter recipe that will keep you moisturized all year long, with NO toxins or harmful chemicals needed!
