Must Have Essential Oils for Black Hair
Essential oils are potent, highly concentrated oils derived from the flowers, seeds, bark, stem and roots of plants and trees. Each EO has properties that are as unique as the compound it comes from. They have benefits ranging from soothing your skin, calming your senses, supporting your emotions and hormones and beautifying and boosting hair health— they are simply perfect for making customizable DIY potions or even just enhancing preformulated natural hair ingredients, including for those targeted to black hair.
Essential oils are the closest thing to a magic bullet for your natural hair but only if you are committed to reading labels and eliminating ALL THE HIDDEN TOXINS in the products designed for our natural hair, including some that natural hair influencers recommend. I wrote a post about how hundreds of toxic ingredients can be hidden under the umbrella term "fragrance" so if you are still using a "natural hair" product that says "fragrance" in the ingredents. RUN. Full stop.
This is super important for African American hair, our hair tends to be fragile and prone to dryness. Black women and essential oils are basically made for each other!
Here's an introduction to 7 powerful essential oils for hair to get you started on your Natural Hair journey.

The anti-microbial, antiseptic, astringent, antioxidant, and tonic properties of this oil make it a beneficial additive in skin care products that are meant to soothe or even treat dry or oily skin, eczema, inflammation, and acne.
Peppermint
This oil can be stimulating and supports new hair growth. One study found that peppermint oil, when used on mice, increased the number of follicles, follicle depth, and overall hair growth. The menthol in peppermint essential oil is a vasodilator, and vasodilators improve blood flow. In many instances (such as in female or male pattern baldness), hair loss occurs due to starved blood flow to hair follicles. Increasing circulation with a vasodilator like peppermint could potentially improve hair growth and prevent some hair loss.

THE POINT OF ESSENTIAL OILS IS TO IMPROVE HEALTH, NOT COMPROMISE IT!
I dont like being played. I do my homework. If you are the same, then you will only want to use Young Living Essential Oils.
Young Living is the ONLY company in the world that has what is called the Seed to Seal process.
There are SO many things companies can do to cut corners and make their oil more profitable. They can distill the same plant material multiple times, which changes the chemical constituents because that plant material has already been heated so high. So that oil will not have the therapeutic benefits you were hoping for. They can add chemicals to the cookers to extract more oil. They can add chemical perfume to the oils to make them smell better. They can dilute the oil to make it cost less to fill a bottle.
They own farms, so they are literally in control of the seeds they plant, the soil it goes into, the cultivation of the plant as it grows, the harvest, the distillation of the plant material including time, temperature, pressure, etc. All the way to testing and bottling. YL has a very open-door, transparent policy that any member can visit the farms.
