Hey, I'm Lydia!

I like playing in the sun and dirt, growing things and taking care of plant babies. When I’m not doing that, I’m watching E! or the  RHWOanywhere and thinking about how to make french fries burn fat (I've never met a french fry I didn’t love). I earned my level 1 crunchy hippie mom badge birthing my little man Mitt unmedicated (ya know, how everyone around the world does...) But I guess the internet liked it cuz our little birth story went viral- go figure.  I'm on a mission to keep myself and my family well, naturally and love and honor our Earth. I'm married to Ben and we are a blending family in progress. I'm loving on my growing tribe of sisterhood from all around the world, join us and stay connected.

A Trip to Yellowstone

A Trip to Yellowstone

I love my in-laws! They plan the best outings, and our trip to Yellowstone was no exception. My mother-in-law scheduled a great home for us all to stay in, (30 people under one roof but you know what, it was a HUGE cabin, and it really worked out just fine.)

I arrived with the baby a little bit late, just because I stayed behind to finish some work at home. So when I arrived, Ben and I put the baby to bed and jumped in the hot tub, and got an early night of sleep so we could explore Yellowstone the next day.

We went in late November and I'm not going to lie it was quite cold--but my husband warned me, so I brought my parka and my warmest layers, and all the cozy clothes to keep the baby a toasty li’l nugget too!

I'm not sure if you've ever been to Yellowstone, but there is too much of it to see in just a couple of days! You really need a few weeks to explore this place.

Some of the highlights we were able to see were the geysers at West Thumb, the drive all around Yellowstone Lake, and the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone.

The West Thumb Geyser Basin is a really awesome collection of hot springs and geysers that are a great way to take in some of the amazing beauty of Yellowstone. Two of the most beautiful pools are called the Abyss Pool and the Black Pool. While these names sound pretty dark, going to see them couldn’t be a brighter experience! They are crystal clear, and the clay in the area makes for lots of beautiful colors all swirling around in the water. The geysers here aren’t all that dramatic, but West Thumb is well worth the view, and is usually not crowded with tourists!

Yellowstone Lake is the biggest body of water in Yellowstone, and there is so much to see around it if you have the time! You can see all kinds of wildlife and even walk over Fishing Bridge to really take in the full view of this majestic place. Cabins are also available nearby if you're looking to stay in Yellowstone for a while.

The Grand Canyon of Yellowstone is a 20-mile long canyon that has towering trees, and old geyser basins that make for an absolutely incredible view! My favorite thing about this canyon is how colorful it is. All the minerals in the rocks make for a gorgeous rainbow that goes from yellow to pink to white to red. With the blue sky and green trees, the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone is truly a once in a lifetime kind of view that everyone should get to see!

Another amazing thing about Yellowstone is how much just IN nature you are. I've never seen so much wildlife up close! Yellowstone is packed with animals, and we were actually able to see a bison from about 15 ft away! There are tons of animals you can see in Yellowstone, and just a few are bears, loons, mountain goats, elk, cranes, deer, lynx, bald eagles, wolves, foxes, and so many more.

I'm so excited to spend more time in Yellowstone, and I'm curious to see it again in the summertime! Have you been to Yellowstone?? What was your favorite part about your trip? I’d love to read about it in the comments below!
