Hey, I'm Lydia!

I like playing in the sun and dirt, growing things and taking care of plant babies. When I’m not doing that, I’m watching E! or the  RHWOanywhere and thinking about how to make french fries burn fat (I've never met a french fry I didn’t love). I earned my level 1 crunchy hippie mom badge birthing my little man Mitt unmedicated (ya know, how everyone around the world does...) But I guess the internet liked it cuz our little birth story went viral- go figure.  I'm on a mission to keep myself and my family well, naturally and love and honor our Earth. I'm married to Ben and we are a blending family in progress. I'm loving on my growing tribe of sisterhood from all around the world, join us and stay connected.

Detoxing After Breast Implant Removal

Detoxing After Breast Implant Removal

In my previous blog posts, I talked about my own breast implant removal journey; as well as two posts about the dangers of breast implants. Today, we’re going to cover some ways that you can help the detox process along after getting your breast implants removed.

Since breast implants are full of heavy metals and other toxins/chemicals that leach into your body, there is a lengthy process involved with detoxing all of that. This is because when our body takes in a lot of toxic stuff, it ends up having to store it in different areas. This contributes to Breast Implant Illness while your implants are still in your body, AND makes detoxing after breast implant removal a much longer journey. However, by taking the time to carefully help your body detox with healthy habits, you can navigate this journey much more easily—especially because you will know what’s happening in your body. Let’s start with diet…

Diet

After having your breast implants removed, it’s important to consider what you eat. Even without ever having implants, our diets can contribute to inflammation, immune system issues, skin problems, hair health, and more. The most important thing to think about when it comes to your post-explant diet is to eat as much anti-inflammatory food as possible. Detoxing can create a lot of inflammation, so being mindful with an anti-inflammatory diet can help you reduce these symptoms.

Many toxins will also be stored in your lymphatic system as well, so dieting to support this body system can be helpful as well.

Your gut’s microbiome can also suffer as you battle BII and the effects of detoxing, so keeping prebiotics like Golden Milk Tea and bentonite clay on hand can help you balance that as well.

Testing

Another part of detoxing after breast implant removal requires some help from your doctor. You should see your doctor about getting bloodwork done to check for fungus/mold development, yeast overgrowth, candida, and other infections that are common for post-implant recovery.

In addition to this, you should also get checked out for genetic issues that can make detoxing more difficult for your body. This specific issue is known as an MTHFR genetic variant, and can actually make your body unable to detox everything left in your body from breast implants.

Since breast implants are absolutely riddled with heavy metals that could have been absorbed into your body, requesting a hair test to see what your levels are can show you just how badly your body needs to detox.

It can also be a good idea to get a full checkup, including a cortisol blood test to make sure all your organs are properly functioning. This is particularly important for knowing whether your endocrine and immune systems are okay.

Being proactive at the beginning of your detox journey can help you get a much clearer picture of how badly your body has been impacted by breast implants. This will help you as you do your own research, so that you can know how long to expect to be in detox.

Supplements

As your body settles into the detoxing process, it’s going to take a lot out of you. Your body is going to be working VERY hard to process everything it has stored over the years, and this is going to use up a lot of resources. This is why it’s very important to speak with a licensed nutritionist and your primary care doctor to discuss the best/safest supplements for you to take to help your body out. Some supplements you can consider include: certain mushrooms like reishi; hormones such as progesterone or estrogen; vitamins A, B, C, E; zinc; echinacea; selenium; turmeric/curcumin; ginger; milk thistle; acetylcholine; and more.

This can also be linked back to your diet through practices like juicing, whole food veganism, and other actually healthy diets that are good for you. Avoid fad diets as you work through your detox, since your body needs all the nutrients it can get at this time.

Lifestyle Additions

There are a LOT of different practices and therapies that can help you work through your detox journey. However, be careful not to go overboard; since your body will only be able to detox so much at a time. If you release too many toxins too quickly, it can make you feel very sick, and slow down the process even more. Take it one step at a time and allow yourself to acclimate to each thing you want to try before adding another.

Here are some lifestyle additions to consider giving a try as you navigate your detoxing journey:

Activated Charcoal

Cold Plunging

Detox Baths

Earthing/Grounding

Epsom Salt Baths

General Exercise

House Plants

Infrared Sauna

Nature Walks

Oxygen Therapy

Ozone Therapy

Red Light Therapy

Swimming

Yoga
