Gua Sha vs Facial Rollers for at home facial massage
Facial Rollers versus Gua Sha
I love a good facial. Skincare is serious buisness for me, but sometimes you its out of budget or doesnt fit in the calender to go to a spa and get pampered all day long like we all deserve, amirite.
Enter home facial rollers.
If you can spring for one thats made of semi precious crystals, then you are in bonus rounds.
My Gua sha stones are awesome- made from rose quartz- and are really great for a customized facial massage experience. They come in lots of different shapes, styles, and stone types; and they allow you to target and sculpt specific areas of your face. Gua sha is a wonderful way to activate acupressure points in your neck and face, and lets you take some time out for some much needed self-care. Gua sha is meant to be something you can really take your time at, and can also help you to have renewed focus, peace, and mindfulness.
Facial rollers are great for a quick rejuvenation when time is tight. Jade rollers specifically, are fantastic at cooling and tightening the skin as you go across your face. Rollers can also help you apply and more fully absorb any serums, oils, or creams you put on at any point in the day. Another great benefit to facial rollers is how they can be used for a soothing massage whenever you need a quick pick-me-up. There are two ends to most facial rollers that let you target and massage the larger and smaller parts of your face with different sized rollers.
Now that we’ve seen some of the specific benefits each of these have to offer, I’d like to tell you the amazing benefits you can get no matter which one you use!
Overall benefits of gua sha AND facial rolling include:
Encouraging lymphatic draining
Relieving tension
Lifting and contouring the skin
Smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles
Decreasing discoloration
Restoring elasticity in the face and neck
Reducing swelling, inflammation, and puffiness
Using gua sha stones and facial rollers is also a very similar process. With both, you want to apply light to medium pressure, use a high quality oil, serum, or cream as a lubricant, work upwards through your face, and don’t forget your neck!
Personally, I vastly prefer my gua sha stone to my jade roller. For me, it feels like a better massage and provides more blood flow. However, in a pinch, my jade roller works great when I don’t have the time for a full on gua sha regimen. I also use jojoba oil with frankincense and lavender as my lubrication, but you can use whatever oils or serums work best for your specific needs.
Please don’t hesitate to ask me any questions you have if you are still on the fence about whether you want to try gua sha or facial rolling. Either way, I know you will see and feel the benefits of these amazing facial massaging and sculpting tools. :)
