Hey, I'm Lydia!

I like playing in the sun and dirt, growing things and taking care of plant babies. When I’m not doing that, I’m watching E! or the  RHWOanywhere and thinking about how to make french fries burn fat (I've never met a french fry I didn’t love). I earned my level 1 crunchy hippie mom badge birthing my little man Mitt unmedicated (ya know, how everyone around the world does...) But I guess the internet liked it cuz our little birth story went viral- go figure.  I'm on a mission to keep myself and my family well, naturally and love and honor our Earth. I'm married to Ben and we are a blending family in progress. I'm loving on my growing tribe of sisterhood from all around the world, join us and stay connected.

Infrared Saunas and Weight Loss

Infrared Saunas and Weight Loss

In my previous blogs, we talked about what infrared saunas are, as well as the benefits they can provide. Today, we’re going to discuss how infrared saunas can be used to help with weight loss! Of course, the right diet, drinking enough water, and doing good exercises for your body and needs is a key part of losing weight. However, infrared sauna sessions can be a great thing to add in that might help you see results faster…

How It Works

Just one 30 to 40 minute session can help you lose over 600 calories! Since infrared saunas can help you detox through your sweat, a lot of this will be water weight.

To burn 600 calories at a time outside of an infrared sauna, you would have to work out very hard on something like an elliptical machine for about 2 hours. I don’t know about you, but I would much rather get to relax in an infrared sauna for 40 minutes than have to work out for that long! ;) Of course, exercise is important, but everyone’s body has different abilities, and an infrared sauna makes this part of weight/fat loss a lot more accessible.

Consistent infrared sauna treatments can also help you get rid of stubborn fat and/or cellulite. Our bodies often use fat as a sort of “storage” for toxins, to dilute them when we get overloaded. This, as well as possibly not being active enough or eating properly, can contribute to your body creating more fat—and more cellulite. Some of the toxins that your fat could be storing include heavy metals, petrochemicals, insecticides, chlorinated water, chemicals from cosmetics, and many more.

So, the more you can detox, the less fat your body will hold onto to store the toxins. This helps you lose fat, which is much more effective than only losing water weight through sweat. However, it is very important to stay on top of your hydration when you are doing infrared sauna sessions. Since they do make you sweat so much, help you detox, and result in weight loss, they also can dehydrate you very quickly. Always make sure that you are drinking at least half your body weight in ounces every day, (If you weigh 100 pounds, that’s 50 ounces of water a day) and drinking more when you have infrared sauna sessions. This will help to keep you hydrated, and it will also help your body to flush out all the toxins that have been brought out of your body. Water is a very important part of overall health, as well as helping support fat/weight loss.

I hope this blog series has inspired you to give infrared saunas and all the benefits they provide a try, whether you are looking for a great way to relax, add to your self care routine, cope with chronic issues, detox, or lose weight. Let me know in the comments below when you get one, and tell me what you thought of it!
