Hey, I'm Lydia!

I like playing in the sun and dirt, growing things and taking care of plant babies. When I’m not doing that, I’m watching E! or the  RHWOanywhere and thinking about how to make french fries burn fat (I've never met a french fry I didn’t love). I earned my level 1 crunchy hippie mom badge birthing my little man Mitt unmedicated (ya know, how everyone around the world does...) But I guess the internet liked it cuz our little birth story went viral- go figure.  I'm on a mission to keep myself and my family well, naturally and love and honor our Earth. I'm married to Ben and we are a blending family in progress. I'm loving on my growing tribe of sisterhood from all around the world, join us and stay connected.

Support Your Lymphatic System

Support Your Lymphatic System

It’s not as complicated as it sounds! Your lymphatic system actually has a pretty straightforward job. It runs white blood cells through your body, and is a huge part of removing icky toxins from the body as well. This is why it’s so important to really show this system some love.

The number one way you can help your lymphatic system is through your diet. What we eat often introduces those nasty toxins into our bodies. These can clog up our lymphatic system and cause a lot of problems. So what are the best things to eat to cleanse it?

Here’s a quick list to refer to:

  • Raw, deep red fruits and veggies. Beets, cherries, cranberries, pomegranates, raspberries, rhubarb, strawberries, tomatoes, and watermelon.

  • Raw, leafy greens. Arugula, bok choy, brussels sprouts, cabbage, collard greens, kale, spinach, and swiss chard.

  • Other foods. Broccoli, cauliflower, and garlic are also very useful for cleansing the lymphatic system, so definitely try to include more of them into your diet.

  • Lots and lots of water. Being hydrated is very, very important for your lymphatic health. Adding some lemon to your water will add an extra boost of benefits for this amazing body system.

Use of herbs and spices is another fantastic way to improve your lymphatic function.

Here is a great list of them that work to detox, unclog, and overall help your lymph system:

  • Ashwagandha. Proven to reduce the risk of cancer of the lymphatic system, and improves the entire immune system overall.

  • Burdock. Boosts your immune system and helps the lymphatic drain properly.

  • Ginger. Cleanses and boosts the entire immune system as a whole—including the lymphatic system.

  • Manjistha. Improves the efficiency of the lymphatic system and boosts liver function.

  • Milk Thistle. Detoxifies and decongests the lymphatic system.

  • Red Root. Acts as a scrub brush for the lymph nodes and ducts.

  • Turmeric. Reduces inflammation and improves blood flow. This helps the lymph system by helping it clean out your blood more efficiently.

  • Wild Indigo. Helps the flow of the lymphatic system. This is very important since this system is propelled by the body’s natural movement. It ensures that it flows properly as you move around.

There are a lot of ways to help your lymph system with outward, physical activities as well. Movement is so valuable to lymph system support because it doesn’t have a pump that pushes things through like the vascular system does. Fluid is moved through this system by our own movement only.

Here are some physical ways you can keep your lymph system truckin’ along:

  • Yoga. Yoga has so many benefits to your overall health, so it’s no surprise that it can improve your lymph function as well. Start from where you feel comfortable, and go from there… You don’t have to be an expert to try a little beginner’s yoga each day.

  • Massage. Lymphatic massage is a very old technique that is regaining traction in the modern health movement. It greatly improves your lymphatic function through its own specific movement over your body, as well as using essential oils that help in their own ways. The best oils for lymphatic massage are: cypress, fennel, grapefruit, and rose geranium.

  • Exercise. Walking, jumping on a trampoline, pushups, situps… Anything that gets you moving around and pumping your muscles is helping your lymphatic system. When your muscles are active, they are pushing all the junk through your lymph system so it can be processed out of your body.

I hope this has helped you see the value of working with your lymphatic system to get all the gunk and ick out of your body. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions you have! I would love to walk with you on your journey to a naturally healthier body.
