Hey, I'm Lydia!

I like playing in the sun and dirt, growing things and taking care of plant babies. When I’m not doing that, I’m watching E! or the  RHWOanywhere and thinking about how to make french fries burn fat (I've never met a french fry I didn’t love). I earned my level 1 crunchy hippie mom badge birthing my little man Mitt unmedicated (ya know, how everyone around the world does...) But I guess the internet liked it cuz our little birth story went viral- go figure.  I'm on a mission to keep myself and my family well, naturally and love and honor our Earth. I'm married to Ben and we are a blending family in progress. I'm loving on my growing tribe of sisterhood from all around the world, join us and stay connected.

My Go-Tos For A Good Night’s Sleep

My Go-Tos For A Good Night’s Sleep

Getting good rest every night is very important for your overall health. Luckily, there are several tools and products out there that can help even the worst insomniac! Below are some of my faves, where you can get them, as well as exactly how they help…

Salt Lamp
Himalayan pink salt lamps have many qualities that make them fantastic sleep aids. Every day, we’re surrounded by positive ions emitted from electronics like our phones, computers, and TVs. These ions build up and cause a lot of issues, including insomnia. Having a salt lamp turned on in your bedroom at night can really help minimize this side effect. By attracting and turning positive ions into negative ones, a pink salt lamp can help you get much better sleep. They are also not bright and have a very warm, calming glow that can encourage a good night’s sleep as well.

Weighted Blanket
Even the worst sleeper can find themselves getting a better night’s sleep with a weighted blanket! Being hugged by the pressure of a heavy blanket helps encourage feelings of calm relaxation that can help you sleep better. My husband was actually a notoriously bad sleeper, and his weighted blanket has helped him get sound sleep every night. Anxiety can be a huge contributor to insomnia… However, using a weighted blanket can help calm general anxiety, and give you a better night’s sleep.

Lectrofan Sound Machine
I absolutely love my Lectrofan Sound Machine, and it has helped SO much with my quality of sleep. You have probably heard of “white noise,” which is the light hum of things like fans, radiators, or static. These are usually well-known for helping people sleep, but there are actually other sound colors that can help! The Lectrofan sound machine is not only great for white noise, but it also has pink and brown noise settings. Pink noises are the sounds of rustling leaves, a heartbeat, rain, and wind. Brown noises are much deeper, and they are the sounds of roaring waterfalls, thunder, or deep whooshing like what you would hear in an ultrasound. Using sound to get a better night’s sleep can be very effective on its own, or to mask noises like traffic.

Lepidolite Stone
The Lepidolite stone is well known in alternative medicine for its ability to help with feelings of calm and groundedness. The rosy purple hues of it can induce calming sensations in the mind. In addition to this, Lepidolite has very soothing energy around it that can help you get a better night’s sleep. Another benefit of Lepidolite is that it can help clear electromagnetic energy from the air. This makes it similar to salt lamps in that it gets rid of the invisible buildup that our electronics flood us with. By calming the mind and body with these properties, Lepidolite is the perfect stone to keep nearby at bedtime for a better night’s sleep.

Essential Oils
My favorite essential oils for a good night’s sleep are lavender and cedarwood.
Lavender is mostly used to reduce stress--which is definitely something that can impact your sleep. However, even if your life is not very stressful, lavender essential oil can help with general insomnia. It has also been found that using lavender essential oil before going to bed can help you feel more invigorated in the morning!
Cedarwood essential oil is a natural sedative that can help you sleep deeper and longer at night. This is the perfect essential oil for those struggling with waking up periodically throughout the night. The smell of cedarwood can also relieve anxiety, and create a soothing environment. By inhaling some cedarwood essential oil before bed, you actually help your pineal gland with its production of melatonin. Melatonin is the hormone our body makes to help us sleep… This makes cedarwood a great, natural way to help give yourself a better night’s sleep.

HOMECH Humidifier
Sleeping with a HOMECH Humidifier can help prevent you from waking up in the night with a dry, scratchy throat. This can be a very common issue, especially in the winter months, or places with drier air. Not only does a humidifier keep your nose and throat moist, but it also keeps your skin from drying out in your sleep! This will help you sleep better with fewer interruptions, and to wake up feeling more well-rested. I definitely recommend a humidifier for anyone struggling with dry air when they sleep.

I hope these go-tos for a good night’s sleep help you combat insomnia and/or interrupted nights of rest. If you have your own thing that gives you a better night’s sleep, I’d love to read about it below!
