Simple Detox Bath Recipes
As much as I would prefer to head to crystal hot springs every day- its a little far away and unrealistic. But I can replicate the relaxing ritual with a bath ritual at home. There aren’t many things better than a warm bath to relax in after a long day… However, you can totally boost that bath up by turning it into a detox bath.
Detox baths have sooo many benefits, and they are super easy to make! Keep reading to find out how to make a great detox bath, and how much it can help your body and mind when you have one.
So what is a detox bath?? All you need for a detox bath is some Epsom salts. And as an added optional boost, some baking soda.
Epsom salts are made from powdered magnesium, which is responsible for 300+ chemical processes in the body. Our bodies need magnesium for:
Proper nerve function
A supported immune system
Strong bones
Balanced blood glucose
Healthy muscles
A steady heartbeat
An improved ability to turn food into energy
Using Epsom salts in a detox bath also helps you absorb magnesium much better than you would by taking it orally. It is also safer to get magnesium this way, than to take supplements. Magnesium supplements can be easily overdosed, and create more issues down the road.
Epsom salts also help to actually draw toxins out of the body through your skin when you put them in a bath. They also get your digestive tract moving and help your body process toxins much faster than normal. Some other amazing benefits of a detox bath are:
Softer skin
Reduced inflammation
Relieved muscle cramps
Unblocked bowels
Balanced magnesium levels
Stress and anxiety relief
I also love adding some baking soda. Its inexpensive and everyone usually has some lying around. It can help with underlying skin conditions like psoriasis, eczema, yeast infections, urinary tract infections and various fungal issues. It makes your skin super soft and promotes detoxification through the largest organ in your body, your skin.
To make a detox bath, fill your tub with water as warm as you can handle, but no more than 102 degrees Fahrenheit. For an average sized tub, you just need about two cups of Epsom salts added and dissolved in the water. You can also add in some baking soda to help detox the water itself if you don’t have a tub faucet filter. As an added bonus, you can add in some essential oils to take advantage of even more mind/body benefits:
Ginger - anti-inflammatory
Lavender - stress reliever
Eucalyptus- respiratory support
Lemongrass - headache reliever
Peppermint - energizer and digestion booster
Rose - anxiety reliever
Tea Tree - immunity booster
Cedarwood - grounding and calming
My personal favorites are lavender and lemongrass, but you can customize your own essential oil additions to your specific needs.
BONUS TIP: Adding apple cider vinegar to your detox bath is great for your hair, skin, possible allergies, and pH balance! Apple cider vinegar has detoxing properties as well, and is a great addition to an Epsom salt detox bath.
As you can see, there are a crazy amount of benefits to trying out Epsom salt detox baths. They aren’t just relaxing, they can totally rejuvenate your body and mind; and all it takes is investing in some time for self-care.
