Hey, I'm Lydia!

I like playing in the sun and dirt, growing things and taking care of plant babies. When I’m not doing that, I’m watching E! or the  RHWOanywhere and thinking about how to make french fries burn fat (I've never met a french fry I didn’t love). I earned my level 1 crunchy hippie mom badge birthing my little man Mitt unmedicated (ya know, how everyone around the world does...) But I guess the internet liked it cuz our little birth story went viral- go figure.  I'm on a mission to keep myself and my family well, naturally and love and honor our Earth. I'm married to Ben and we are a blending family in progress. I'm loving on my growing tribe of sisterhood from all around the world, join us and stay connected.

What To Do With Cedarwood

What To Do With Cedarwood

Cedarwood is a relatively common kind of soft wood that has sooo many uses! It, of course, comes from the cedar tree; and today we’re gonna get into some of the ways you can benefit from it! Keep reading to find out what to do with cedar wood…

To Store Clothing

Cedar is actually a fantastic, natural way to keep moths and other pests out of your clothes! Use a cedar trunk or wardrobe, or line your closet with cedarwood to help protect your clothes from being eaten up by these little guys. Plus, it smells wayyy better than those stinky, toxic moth balls!

For Building

Cedarwood is particularly perfect for fences, shingles, furniture, and insulation!

- A cedar fence is generally much more durable and long-lasting than the usual pine wood fence. It isn’t as inviting to insects, and it doesn’t warp in moisture or heat!

- Cedarwood shingles are absolutely fantastic for a few ways… They’re easily resized on the spot; cedar is naturally anti-fungal, so resists rot; and they’re very lightweight, so they won’t overload your roof. Cedarwood’s insulating properties are also a great quality for roofing!

- Like we talked about above, furniture made from cedarwood is great for clothing storage, is aromatic, and repels pests. Cedarwood is also a wonderful option for furniture because it’s a sustainable resource, lasts a very long time, and comes in an array of colors that don’t require chemical treatments.

As An Essential Oil

Cedarwood essential oil has a TON of benefits and uses for all kinds of things!

- Anti-inflammatory. Cedarwood is perfect for anyone suffering from chronic joint pain and/or inflammation. Just rub a little bit into the skin where it hurts, and let it do its work! It also helps against spasms from all kinds of conditions.

- Decongestant. Cedarwood essential oil is a powerful respiratory function booster. Inhale the scent from a diffuser or from some steam, and let it help you through congestion from allergies and/or sickness.

- Skin Care. Dandruff, breakouts, cellulite, and even superficial wounds are no match for cedarwood essential oil. This essential oil is a natural disinfectant, antimicrobial, detoxifier, cleanser, and naturally stimulates blood flow and hair growth!

- Aromatherapy. Cedarwood essential oil can help with relaxation/sleep AND focus! It’s the best of both worlds in that it helps you to be able to concentrate on tasks more easily; while also relieving stress and tension to promote a good night’s sleep.

*Keep in mind that cedarwood oil is only for external use, and should not be consumed.*

As you can see, cedarwood is an extremely versatile treasure from nature. I would definitely recommend that everyone at least have the essential oil in their home if nothing else. :) What’s your favorite use for cedarwood? Let me know in the comments below!
