Why I’m Loving Lavender
Lavender is a gorgeous and very well-known type of herb… It’s a common addition to many gardens, and can even be used in cooking and teas! This lovely flowering herb is so much more than a pretty face, and actually has many practical uses. Keep reading to find out why I’m loving lavender right now!
It’s Pro Bee!
Planting lavender in your garden is a great way to attract these adorable little pollinators! With bee numbers on the decline, it’s important that we all do our part to protect them, and help them grow. In addition to bringing in bees, lavender also encourages butterflies and other good insects to move in—emphasis on the “good.” Lavender works like a bouncer… It attracts the beneficial guests, and keeps the pesky pests like mosquitoes and ticks out!
It’s A Delicious Ingredient!
Lavender’s aromatic qualities make it the perfect addition to all kinds of baked goods, and even drinks! You can infuse almost any basic ingredient with lavender to give it a little extra something. Sugar, water, honey (or simple syrup), oil, milk (including non-dairy), tea, and even flour are all things that can be infused with lavender to give them a little bit of sophistication. Lavender can also be made into jams, cookies, cakes, frostings, lemonade, and so much more! A quick internet search is all it takes, and you’ll see just how much you can cook with a little lavender.
It’s A Natural Medicine!
This herb has been used in medicine for thousands of years, and we can still take advantage of its benefits today! Lavender has many medicinal properties; and you can easily make use of them by using the essential oil… Lavender essential oil is a natural antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, sleep aid, anti-fungal, hair growth stimulator, bug bite soother, antibacterial, healthy skin promoter, pain reliever, and antimicrobial. This is one of the most popular essential oils because it has so many practical uses, and also smells fantastic.
Here are a few ways to use it:
Diffuse some at night to soothe anxiety, and promote a good night’s sleep.
Dab a bit onto bug bites, acne, or minor wounds to help with pain, bacteria, and swelling.
Use a little lavender essential oil in a yoni steam to naturally combat yeast infections. (Read more about yoni steaming HERE)
Use it in a hair mask scalp massage to stimulate hair growth.
Inhale the scent of lavender to get rid of headaches, and even fight depression.
Lavender is just such an amazing plant, and I love using it in almost everything! Even if you don’t grow your own, it’s easy to take advantage of the many benefits of lavender essential oil. Let me know in the comments if you have any questions or extra uses you use it for!
