Hey, I'm Lydia!

I like playing in the sun and dirt, growing things and taking care of plant babies. When I’m not doing that, I’m watching E! or the  RHWOanywhere and thinking about how to make french fries burn fat (I've never met a french fry I didn’t love). I earned my level 1 crunchy hippie mom badge birthing my little man Mitt unmedicated (ya know, how everyone around the world does...) But I guess the internet liked it cuz our little birth story went viral- go figure.  I'm on a mission to keep myself and my family well, naturally and love and honor our Earth. I'm married to Ben and we are a blending family in progress. I'm loving on my growing tribe of sisterhood from all around the world, join us and stay connected.

Do you love the idea of cleansing your home of negative energies with sage, but can’t burn things in your home or other spaces that need it? Not a problem… You can still cleanse any space with sage—no burning needed! The answer to this problem is to use spray instead of smoke. (If you do prefer the idea of a sage smoke cleanse, please refer to THIS post on How To Sage Your Space.)

Sage is a powerful plant with many cleansing properties. Not only is it antibacterial, but it also emits negative ions that neutralize positive ions that contribute to stress, anxiety, and other bad energy/feelings. This makes it a great choice in any sort of cleansing/purifying practice to recenter and prepare your space for positive manifestations.

So how can you turn all the benefits of sage cleansing into a versatile and even travel-friendly spray that smells amazing?? Keep on reading for a quick and easy recipe you can use to learn how to make sage spray you can use anywhere, any time!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 small spray bottle (the more misty the spray stream, the better)

  • witch hazel

  • hot water (heat will help draw the natural oils out of any fresh or dried plants you use)

  • 10 drops sage essential oil and/or 3-5 fresh or dried sage leaves

  • 5 drops lavender essential oil and/or 1-2 teaspoons fresh or dried lavender

  • 3 drops lemon essential oil and/or 1-2 teaspoons fresh or dried lemon peel

  • 1 tablespoon Himalayan pink salt

Here’s how to make your sage spray:

  • First, you’ll want to add your dry ingredients to the bottle. This includes the Himalayan pink salt and any fresh or dried sage, lavender, and lemon peel you want to use. Be sure to bruise any fresh plant matter you’re using to help release the natural oils and scents.

  • Next, it’s time to add in any sage, lavender, and lemon essential oils you have.

  • Lastly, fill your bottle halfway with hot water, and the rest with witch hazel.

  • Now all that’s left is shaking it up, and it’s ready to use!

Feel free to customize this recipe however you want; it’s just an easy base to get you started. You can use this sage spray the same way you would use sage smoke, since all the ingredients are known for their cleansing and mood-boosting benefits. Simply open a way for the negative energies to escape, set your intentions, and then mist this mixture all over the space you want cleansed. (The reason just a mist is best is so that you don’t have to worry about big droplets or puddles on your things.) You can also make this mixture into a travel-sized spray bottle that you can keep in your bag or briefcase for emergency or workspace cleansing or even just as an air freshener with benefits. Don’t be shy to let me know in the comments what you like to add to your sage spray, or if you have any questions!
